Violoncello
Model Marcus Snoeck
The ‘Brussels’ school existed, among others, of the best known builders Peeter and Gaspar Borbon, and Egidius and Marcus Snoeck. The family Borbon (Borboun) worked at the Brussels court in the 17th century, the family Snoeck in the 18th century. The former were teachers to the latter. Marcus Snoeck was a luthier and musician at the Brussels court.
In contrast to Gaspar Borbon’ bass violin this instrument has the measurements of a ‘classical’ small violoncello, that are 720 mm long and 413 mm wide.
The scale is ‘classical’ as well, namely 690 mm. These instruments are, just like the bass violins, built archaically.
The violoncello has a beautiful and elegant round shape, a fascinating instrument!
Construction of this instrument will start in the fall of 2009.
Provided photos are from an existing cello model D. Montagnana (‘The sleeping beauty’).
